The lid represents a baboon's head with the typical projecting bushes of hair at the sides of the head, the dog-like snout and thick bushes of hair at the shoulders. The baboon wears some sort of pectoral. The hairs are indicated by vertical lines, on the shoulders alternatingly painted black and brown, black on the head. The facial features, especially the nostrils, are expressively painted in black. The bottom of the lid was made to fit onto the jar.
The baboon is Hapi, one of the Four Sons of Horus, in his function of protector of the lungs.
