This small amulet in blue green faience, which is part of the collection É. de Meester de Ravestein, represents the goddess Taweret (the Great). Depicted under the form of a hippopotamus with the back of a crocodile and the legs of a lion, she embodies all functions of fertility and procreation. She is the protector above all of pregnancy and of the woman, whom she watches over at the moment of childbirth, in the company of the protective genie Bes.
