The broken stela made of limestone depicts the bearded serpent Agathos Daimon, or "the good spirit," guardian of Alexandria. 

The serpent is shown in relief with the Atef crown of Osiris, which is the White Crown of Upper Egypt flanked by two plumes.

According to Pseudo-Callisthenes in "The Story of Alexander," when a temple was being built during the construction of Alexandria, many small snakes emerged from the foundation and spread throughout the city where they were protected and honored by the Alexandrians.

Although the cult of Agathos Daimon is not often mentioned before the second century BC, it became very popular in the Roman period.

Cette stèle de calcaire brisée représente le serpent barbu Agathos Daimon, ou "le bon esprit", gardien d'Alexandrie. Ce serpent est coiffé de la couronne Atef d'Osiris. 

Il s'agit de la couronne blanche de la Haute Egypte flanquée de deux plumes. 

Attribué au Pseudo-Callisthène, "Le roman d'Alexandre" explique: "quand un temple fut érigé lors de la construction d'Alexandrie, de nombreux petits serpents sortirent des fondations et se répandirent à travers toute la ville où ils furent protégés et honorés par les Alexandrins".

Bien que le culte d'Agathos Daimon ait été rarement mentionné avant le deuxième siècle avant Jésus-Christ, il devint extrêmement populaire au cours de la période romaine.

يصور شاهد الحجر الجيري المكسور الأفعى الملتحي اجاثوس دايمون أي "الروح الخيرة" حامي الإسكندرية. 

إذ يتجلى الأفعوان في نقش ناتئ بتاج أوزوريس "الأتف" وهو تاج صعيد مصر الأبيض بين ريشتين. في "قصة الاسكندر" كما رواها بوسيدو- كالسثنيس، أن معبداً عند بناءه، أثناء تأسيس الإسكندرية، قد انطلقت من أساسه ثعابين صغيرة انتشرت في أنحاء المدينة حيث شملها السكندريون بالحماية والتكريم.

على أن شعائر أجاثوس دايمون، وإن لم تذكر كثيراً قبل القرن الثاني ق.م، فقد شاعت وانتشرت كثيراً بين الناس في العصر الروماني.
