Sobek

Sobek.jpg

Crocodile god. Because crocodiles were present all over Egypt, Sobek was worshipped everywhere. The majority of the temples had a sacred lake in which one or more crocodiles lived. The most important cult centres for Sobek were Kom Ombo (whose temple was also dedicated to a form of Horus, Haroeris) and the Faiyum (the temple of Medinet El-Faiyum, close to the place where the city of Crocodilopolis once stood). Sobek was usually depicted as a man with the head of a crocodile, or as a crocodile.
