Dovetail

BrE.8055.jpg

The egyptians used clamps of stone, metal or wood to fix blocks of stone during the construction of monuments. Taking the form of a dovetail, the clamps sometimes carried an inscription. This example in wood shows the cartouche of Sethos I preceded by the epithet "neb-tawy", signifying "Lord of the Two Lands".
