BrE.7519(1).jpg
BrE.7519(2).jpg

The crew of this model of a boat is composed of several people. The pilot is seated at the prow and commands the man who holds the helm at the front. The oarsmen seated and standing in groups of two hold the rhythm given by a sailor. All are dressed in a white loincloth and wear a black wig cut short. The figures are of average workmanship, except the eyes which have been painted with utmost care. The model, which must have provided the dead with the possibility to navigate in the Afterlife, dates from the Middle Kingdom.
