Description
This domed seal is characteristic of the group of earliest amulet stamp-seal types out of which the scarab form was developed. The enigmatic motifs on the underside are also typical of the 1st Intermediate Period.

Dit gewelfde zegel is karakteristiek voor de groep vroegste amuletstempelzegels waaruit de scarabee zich ontwikkelde. De raadselachtige tekens op de onderkant zijn ook typerend voor de 1e Tussenperiode.
Ce sceau en forme de dôme est caractéristique des amulettes en forme de sceau apparues assez tôt et qui seront à l'origine des formes scaraboïdes. Les motifs énigmatiques figurant sur la face inférieure sont également typiques de la Première Période Intermédiaire.
Dieses gewölbte Siegel ist charakteristisch für eine Gruppe der frühesten Stempelsiegeltypen, aus denen sich die Skarabäusform entwickelte. Die änigmatischen Motive auf der Unterseite sind ebenfalls typisch für die 1. Zwischenzeit.
Questo sigillo a cupola è caratteristico del gruppo dei primi tipi di amuleti di sigilli a stampo dai quali si sviluppò la forma dello scarabeo. Il motivo enigmatico sulla parte inferiore è pure tipico del Primo Periodo Intermedio.

General Comment
Site: Asiut is attributed as the find site in the register. To the south on the East Bank of the Nile a series of 1st Intermediate Period cemeteries stretching to Qau were later excavated, and it is possible that this object was purchased in Asiut but found in one of the burials in that area.
