The Global Egyptian Museum

A gable, in the center of a raised circular ornament, is situated over an oblong stela. On two sides, there are pointed acroteria, or small pedestals. A piece is missing from one of these pedestals. 

Beneath the gable there is an inscription of three lines: "IOCOTTHNET EKBEOCKPY IC." Below this inscription there is a rectangle with a circular ornament in which is a cross inside a circular notch. Above two sides of the rectangle there is a raised circular ornament similar to that in the center of the gable. 

Beneath the sides of the rectangle there are palm leaves with a cross in the center. The lower part of the panel is devoid of any ornament. 

The museum has over 200 funeral inscriptions, some are in greek ans others in copt.This panel was found in the monasteries west of Alexandria. Similar panels have been found in various parts of Upper and Lower Egypt, especially in Aswan, Akhmim, and Ashmunein. 

Some are made of marble, while others are made of sandstone from Aswan, or of limestone, some of which is from the quarries of El Maks in Alexandria. Some of these funerary panels are triangular, others are oblong with a gable at the top.

Il s'agit d'une stèle oblongue au-dessus delaquelle on voit un pignon au centre d'une décoration circulaire élevée. Chaque côté est doté d'un acroteria pointu. Une partie de l'un d'eux manque.

En bas du pignon, on lit une inscription de trois lignes : IOCOTTHNET EKBEOCKPY IC. Sous cette inscription, il y a un rectangle avec une décoration circulaire dans laquelle on voit une croix à l'intérieur d'une encoche circulaire.

Au-dessus des deux côtés du rectangle, une décoration circulaire élevée similaire à celle du centre du pignon se dessine. En dessous des côtés du rectangle, on voit des feuilles de palmier avec une croix au centre. La partie inférieure du panneau est dépourvue de toute décoration.

Le musée possède plus de 200 inscriptions funéraires, certaines sont en grec et d'autres en copte. Ce panneau fut trouvé à Alexandrie, dans les monastères à l'ouest d'Alexandrie. Des panneaux similaires ont été trouvés dans différents endroits de Haute et de Basse Egypte, et plus spécialement à Assouan, à Akhmim et à Ashmounein. 

Certains sont en marbre, d'autres en grès d'Assouan ou en pierre à chaux et viennent des carrières d'El Maks à Alexandrie. Certains de ces panneaux funéraires sont triangulaires, d'autres sont oblongs avec un pignon au sommet.

لوحة مستطيلة الشكل يعلوها جمالون في الوسط بزخرف دائري؛ وعلى الجانبين قواعد لتماثيل ( أكروتيريا) مدببة. وقد فقدت قطعة من إحداهما. 

يوجد تحت الجمالون نقش مكتوب في ثلاثة أسطر:"IOCOTTHNET EKBEOCKPY" ويوجد تحت هذا النقش شكل مستطيل بزخرف دائري؛ به صليب في داخل سن دائري. 

فوق ضلعين من الشكل المستطيل، يوجد سعف نخيل بصليب في الوسط. والجزء السفلي من اللوحة خال تماما من الزخارف. 

يضم المتحف ما يربو على مائتي نقش جنائزي مكتوب؛ بعضها باللغة اليونانية، بينما البقية باللغة القبطية. وعثر على اللوحة بأحد الأديرة غرب الإسكندرية؛ وعثر على لوحات مماثلة في أجزاء مختلفة من الوجه البحري والصعيد: خاصة في أسوان وأخميم والأشمونين. 

بعضها من الرخام والبعض الآخر من الحجر الرملي الأسواني أو من الحجر الجيري؛ وبعض هذا من محاجر المكس بالإسكندرية. وبعض هذه اللوحات الجنائزية مثلث الشكل والبعض الآخر مستطيل الشكل؛ بجمالون على القمة.
