The Global Egyptian Museum

This column capital, hollowed out on top, is decorated with geometric shapes in the form of basketweave. The center of the capital is decorated with a bound three-leaved lotus flower. 

It was used in the Coptic Church as a baptismal font. 

The artist made the bowl of the font resemble a mother's womb because, in Coptic belief, immersing children in the baptismal font gives them a second birth. 

At the bottom of the capital is a hole through which the baptismal water was drained.

Creux sur le dessus, ce chapiteau de colonne est décoré de motifs géométriques en forme d'osier. Le centre de ce chapiteau est orné d'une fleur de lotus à trois feuilles.

Il était utilisé dans l'église copte en tant que fonts baptismaux. 

L'artiste fit en sorte que le bassin ressemble au ventre d'une mère car, pour les Coptes, immerger les enfants dans les fonts baptismaux équivalait à une seconde naissance.

Au bas de ce chapiteau se trouve un trou qui servait à vider l'eau du bassin.

تاج عمود مجوف من أعلي عليه رسوم هندسية عبارة عن سلة مجدولة، يتوسط التاج زخرفة نباتية عبارة عن زهرة لوتس ذات ثلاثة أوراق. 

وقد أعيد إستخدامه كحوض للمعمودية من قبل الأقباط.

شكل الفنان تجويف المعمودية في هيئة رحم الأم حيث يعتقد الأقباط أن تغطيس الأطفال في حوض المعمودية يعطي ولادة ثانية لذلك جعل التجويف علي هيئة رحم الأم. 

وجعل في أسفل تاج العمود ثقب وذلك لتصريف مياه المعمودية.
