Beschrijving

Pottery oil-lamp with traces of burning around spout and central wick hole. The stylised motif around the centre may derive from a wheatsheaf or similar. Lamps of this type were introduced into Egypt from the Greco-Roman world in the late first millennium BC, and became common in the Roman Period. This example is said to have been acquired at Thebes, and perhaps comes from a late Roman burial or monastic site there.
