Description
Painted and gilded mummy-mask of cartonnage, from the tomb of a rich woman in the Ptolemaic Period. The woman is depicted with intricate hairstyle and colourful floral collar. The rounded cheeks and wide eyes are typical of the idealising style in Egyptian formal art during this period. The outstanding quality of the piece and the use of gold indicate that the owner belonged to the elite, who continued to adhere to Pharaonic art and funerary practice until the Roman Period.

Beschilderd en verguld mummiemasker uit het graf van een rijke vrouw uit de Ptolemeïsche Periode. De vrouw is afgebeeld met ingewikkelde haardracht en kleurige bloemenkraag. De ronde wangen en wijdopen ogen zijn typerend voor de idealiserende stijl in Egyptische formele kunst tijdens deze periode. De uitzonderlijke kwaliteit van dit stuk en het gebruik van goud geven aan dat de eigenaar tot de elite behoorde, die vast bleef houden aan faraonische kunst en begrafenisgewoonten tot de Romeinse Periode.
Masque de momie, en cartonnage peint et doré, provenant de la tombe d'une riche dame de la Période Ptolémaïque. La femme porte une coiffure compliquée et un collier floral coloré. Les joues rondes et les grands yeux, d'un style idéalisant, sont typiques de l'art égyptien de cette période. La remarquable qualité de la pièce et l'usage de l'or indiquent que la propriétaire appartenait à l'élite. Cette élite est restée fidèle à l'art pharaonique et aux pratiques funéraires jusqu'à la Période Romaine.
Bemalte und vergoldete Mumienmaske aus Kartonage aus dem Grab einer reichen Frau der Ptolemäerzeit. Die Frau ist mit einer komplizierten Frisur und einem farbenfrohen Blütenkragen dargestellt. Die gerundeten Wangen und großen Augen sind typisch für den idealisierenden Stil der formalen ägyptischen Kunst dieser Zeit. Die herausragende Qualität des Stücks und die Verwendung von Gold weisen darauf hin, daß die Besitzerin zur Elite gehörte, die pharaonischer Kunst und Bestattungssitte bis zur Römerzeit anhing.
Maschera di mummia di cartonnage dipinto e dorato, proveniente da una tomba di una ricca donna del Periodo Tolemaico. La donna é raffigurata con un una complessa pettinatura e una collana floreale colorata. Le guance rotonda e gli occhi grandi sono tipici dello stile idealizzante dell'arte egizia formale durante questo periodo. La notevole qualità di questo pezzo e l'uso dell'oro indicano che il proprietario apparteneva all'élite, che continuò a seguire l'arte e le pratiche funerarie faraoniche fino al Periodo Romano.
Máscara de múmia em cartonagem dourada e pintada, do túmulo de uma mulher abastada do Período Ptolemaico. A mulher está representada com um complicado penteado e colar floral colorido. As bochechas arredondadas e os olhos rasgados são típicos do ideal da arte egípcia formal durante este período. A fantástica qualidade desta peça e uso de ouro indicam que a dona pertencia à elite, que continuou a aderir à arte faraónica e práticas funerárias até ao Período Romano.

La mujer aparece representada con un complicado peinado y un colorido collar floral. Las mejillas redondas y los grandes ojos son típicos del estilo idealizador del arte formal egipcio de este período. La magnífica calidad de la pieza y el uso del oro indican que la propietaria pertenecía a la elite, que continuó haciendo uso del arte y las costumbres funerarias egipcias hasta el Período Romano.
