Description
Large section of a much-worn linen textile, bearing woven purple and red wool geometric motifs. The cloth is typical of late Roman and Byzantine production. Such decorated textiles survive from Egyptian desert burials on a massive scale, thanks to the custom of wrapping the unmummified Christian dead in cloths from life.
