Description
The column capital is carved to resemble a basket braided from palm leaves. Each of its four sides is penetrated with a rectangle ornamented with a papyrus plant. The column capital was used as a basin or as a baptismal font. The surface is hollowed and has an opening from which the water can drain. This capital and another similar one were found in the Ramleh Station area. They are thought to be remains of the famous Saint Mark, or "Marcus," Church
