The Global Egyptian Museum

An alabastron is a vessel for perfumed oil named after alabaster, from which the original Egyptian examples were made. 

The pottery alabastron depicts the head of Dionysos as a child, emerging from a chalice of leaves of acanthus and lotus below a figure of Bes dancing.

Bes wears his big crown of feathers. The mixture of the Egyptian and Greek art is obvious. The alabastron was used in the Greek period to contain perfumes and had a role in funerary ritual.

Vase pour huiles parfumées, l'alabastron tire son nom de l'albâtre. En effet, les premiers exemplaires égyptiens étaient taillés dans cette pierre.

Cet alabastron en céramique représente la tête de Dionysos sous les traits d'un enfant. Elle sort d'un calice composé de feuilles d'acanthe et de lotus, en dessous d'une figurine du dieu Bès en train de danser. 

Ce dieu est coiffé de son grande couronne de plumes. Le mélange entre art grec et égyptien est évident. Utilisé au cours de la période grecque afin de contenir des parfums, l'alabastron jouait également un rôle dans les rites funéraires.

الألبسترون وعاء لزيت عطري سمى باسم الألبستر حيث صنعت منه الأمثلة المصرية الأصيلة. 

يصور هذا الألبسترون الفخاري رأس ديونيسوس طفلاً منبعثاً من جفنة ورق الأكانتوس والسوسن من تحت شخص الإله "بس" راقصاً، إذ يتخذ بس تاجه الكبير من الريش. 

هنا يتجلى معاً نماذج الفن المصري والإغريقي واضحاً وكان الألبسترون يستعمل في العصر الإغريقي لحفظ العطور كما كان له دوره في الشعائر الجنائزية.
