Marble Head of Serapis

Alx-31-5-844-_800x800.jpg

The marble head of Serapis probably belonged to a complete statue. Serapis is portrayed with his usual features, having long, wavy dense hair, a heavy wavy beard, and a long mustache connected to the beard.

The mouth is partially open and the nose is long with two narrow openings. His eyes were inlaid, but the inlay is currently lost.

This type of portrayal of Serapis belongs to the Roman era. The surface of the scupture has been affected by water.
