King Merenptah was buried in tomb KV 8 in the Valley of the Kings and later moved to the tomb of Amenhotep the Second, where it was found. The skin of the mummy became unusually brighter, mainly due to the salt that was heavily used in the mummification process. 

His skin's brightness leads some scholars to link him with the Pharaoh of the Exodus in the Old Testament, who drowned in the Red Sea. However, nothing about this mummy supports this theory. 

The pharaoh apparently suffered from dental problems and fractures in his thighbones. In their search for gold, the tomb-robbers split the mummy's right clavicle and injured the left shoulder, possibly by using a knife or an axe to cut a hole through the body.

Ce roi a été enterré dans la tombe KV 8 dans la Vallée des Rois puis ensuite déplacée dans la tombe d'Amenhotep Deux, où elle fut découverte. La peau de cette momie est devenue inhabituellement plus claire, principalement à cause du sel qui était largement utilisé dans le processus de momification. 

La clarté de sa peau conduit certains scientifiques à l'associer au pharaon de l'Exode de l'Ancien Testament qui s'est noyé dans la mer rouge. Cependant, aucun élément de cette momie ne vient confirmer cette théorie. 

Ce pharaon souffrait apparemment de problèmes dentaires et de fractures des fémurs. Dans leur recherche d'or, les pilleurs de tombes ont cassé la clavicule droite de la momie et blessé son épaule gauche, sans doute en utilisant un couteau ou une hache pour effectuer un trou dans le corps.

دفنت مومياء مرنبتاح فى المقبرة رقم 8 بوادى الملوك ثم نقلت لاحقاً إلى مقبرة أمنحتب الثانى حيث اكتشفت. وقد وجد أن جلد المومياء أصبح ذا لون أفتح من المعتاد، وذلك يرجع أساساً لاستخدام كثير من الملح فى عملية التحنيط. 

وهذا اللون الفاتح أدى بعض العلماء للإعتقاد فى أن مرنبتاح هو نفسه فرعون الخروج المذكور فى العهد القديم والذى غرق فى البحر الأحمر، إلا أن لا شئ فى هذه المومياء يدعم هذا الرأى. 

ويبدو أن الفرعون كان يعانى من مشاكل فى أسنانه وكسر فى عظام الفخذ. وفى أثناء بحثهم عن الذهب داخل الجثمان، شرخ لصوص المقابر القدماء عظمة الترقوة اليمنى وجرحوا الكتف الأيسر ربما باستخدام سكين أو بلطة لعمل ثقب فى الجسم.
