Descrizione

This large, partly reconstructed Tell el-Yahudiya jug - neck and rim are missing - is divided into five horizontal zones, separated by bands running around the pot. In the upper section are triangles, in the broadest section are large rectangular fields, underneath them are upside-down triangles each with a dotted motif. Then follows a row of fish facing right. The lowermost zone depicts a row of triangles filled with dots. A particularity of this vessel is its large size. The figurative motif of the jumping fish is also unusual. This may be a Mediterranean influence. They may be stylised representations of dolphins. The place where it was found indicates that the vessel was used for ceremonial purposes.
