Description

Fragment of cloth decorated in purple, red and yellow with the head of a woman with long curled hair and a beaded headband. From the area surviving this seems to have been one in a series of busts, as decorative motif around another subject. The techniques of dying and combining wool and linen to form intricate decorated fabrics is a feature of Roman and Byzantine rule, replacing the predominant plain white linen of Pharaonic times.
